Learn to Sew: Absolute Beginners
Always wanted to sew but never knew where to start? Join our 3-week Beginners Sewing Series at Bayside Makerspace and get hands-on with sewing machines, hand-stitching, embroidery & embellishments!
💖 Week 1: Meet your machine—learn the parts, thread it, make bobbins & create your first scrunchie.
💖 Week 2: Hand sewing, embroidery & designing your own textiles.
💖 Week 3: Bring it all together with a personalised drawstring pouch using your textiles or Cricut vinyl decals.
All tools and materials provided, plus a folio to track your progress. By the end, you’ll have the skills and creations to show off!
Dates: 3 consecutive days same day and time

Private Sewing Workshop
The perfect way to start or continue your sewing journey in a one-on-one learning environment.

Makes: Completing a special project or working on techniques - this workshop is tailored just for you.
What you’ll do:
Don't worry if you're new to sewing! This workshop is a safe space for beginners, and you'll be gently guided through each step of the process. You're encouraged to ask questions, experiment, and make mistakes - it's all part of the learning journey.

Your creative enthusiasm and any specific project fabric, closures, buttons etc.

Beginner-friendly workshop.
*IMPORTANT
If the participant wants to make a specific large project such as a dress, the participant needs to BYO fabric including closures such as zippers or buttons.
Tween and Teen Sewing Course for Absolute Beginners
BOOK YOUR SEWING COURSE
Sewing Course for Absolute Beginners (Teens & Tweens Class)
Time: 6 x 1.5 hour sessions
Cost: $250
Makes: 3 Beginner Friendly Sewing Projects
What you’ll do:
Session 1: Introduction to Sewing Machines, Tools, and Materials
Session 2: Threading your machine and making bobbins and Starting SEWING Project 1: Scrunchies
Session 3: Hand Sewing, Embroidery, and Embellishments
Session 4: Project 2: Making your own textiles!
Session 5: Coming together! Final Project 3: Drawstring Pouch using textiles you’ve made, either by embroidery or layering, Cricut vinyl decals etc.
Session 6: Open session, finishing off projects or practising techniques learnt
Throughout the course, all materials and tools will be provided, and teens and tweens will have a folio to keep track of their progress. By the end, they will not only have honed their sewing skills but also have unique creations to take home and show off to their friends.

Keep Sewing
Now you know the basics, what comes next? For our young at heart adults you can join us for a private workshop, bring your own textile project and use the studio to work on you project in a supportive enviroment with as little or as much guidance as you would like.
For the Teen & Tweens we have the DIY Fashion workshop, another 6 x 1.5 hour sessions where they sew their own clothing.
Tween and Teen Sewing Series:
DIY Fashion
In this workshop, you will learn how to create your own fashion clothing and accessories over six sessions.Together, we'll decide on a simple piece of clothing to make, and depending on your sewing speed and skills, you may even create multiple pieces using DIY Daisy pattern-free formulas from her book SEW it Yourself. Throughout the series you will:
Take your own measurements
Learn how to measure and cut fabric
How to prepare seams and heams to sew
Finishing your raw edges
Extra techniques depending on youor chosen outfit, ruffles, rathereing, bias binding, necklines and casings.
Finishing touches and showing off your creation
This class is perfect for novice to intermediate sewers who are familiar with basic sewing machine skills. If you've completed our Absolute Beginners series, you're all set to join this workshop, if not please reach out so we can discuss the level of your tween/teen.
BYO chosen fabric for making your clothing.
What you'll get
All sewing machines, tools, and guidance to learn the basics of a sewing machine and hand sewing. Does not include the fabric for clothing project. Clothing options include, skirts, dress's, shorts, variety of accessories, bags and more.
Knowledge required
This is an intermediate sewing series, must know:
How to thread the top and bobbin thread, make your own bobbin and knowledge of a basic sewing machine unassisted
Must know how to straight stitch and zigzag stitch raw edges, how to turn corners
Must know basic sewing terminology such as what a seam is, what right and wrong side of fabric is, how to hem, basic hand-sewing skills (running).
If you have attended our Absolute Beginners series you’re good to go!

What to bring: Your project and materials (fabric, embroidery, punch needle, etc.). Knitting and crochet welcome, but guidance isn’t provided.
Skill level: Beginner-friendly if you’ve got basic sewing skills; absolute beginners should join our Absolute Beginner Sewing Workshop Series first.
Knowledge required
If you plan on sewing, you will need basic sewing machine skills such as seam, hem, threading the machine, basic embroidery threading, and hand-sewing. If you do not have these skills, join us for the Absolute Beginners Sewing workshop series first!
What to bring
BYO fabric and sewing or textile project such as sewing project, embroidery, punch needling, needle felting. Guidance can be provided.
Note you are welcome to bring other projects such as knitting and crocheting, but guidance won't be provided for these crafts.

All sewing machines and tools such as pins, scissors, seam rippers with be provided. The Absolute Beginner series we’ll provide the fabric and materials to use but if you’re doing a Private lesson or the DIY Fashion series you’ll need to BYO fabric.
